BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Bernard of Clairvaux was born in 1090 in Fontaine-lès-Dijon, France, and joined the Abbey of Cîteaux in 1112. He became the most prominent figure of the Cistercian Order and founded the Abbey of Clairvaux in 1115, serving as its abbot. Bernard played a key role in medieval theology and mysticism and was a trusted advisor to popes and kings. He advocated for church reform and preached the Second Crusade. His major theological work, "De diligendo Deo," emphasizes the importance of love for God. He was canonized in 1174 by Pope Alexander III and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1830.
