BIOGRAPHY:
St. Louis of France, also known as Louis IX, was born on April 25, 1214, in Poissy. As the son of King Louis VIII and Blanche of Castile, he ascended the French throne at the age of eleven. During his minority, his mother acted as regent and deeply instilled in him the faith. Louis was known for his deep piety and sense of justice. He promoted the construction of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris to house the Crown of Thorns of Christ and other relics. Additionally, he dedicated himself to the poor, founded hospitals, and supported the establishment of the Sorbonne. He participated in two crusades: the Sixth Crusade, during which he was captured in Egypt, and another during which he died of illness in Carthage in 1270. He was canonized by Pope Boniface VIII in 1297.
