BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Meinrad, also known as Saint Meinrad, was born around 797 in Sülchen, near Rottenburg am Neckar. He came from a noble family and was educated at the Reichenau Monastery on Lake Constance, where he was later ordained as a priest. After several years as a teacher, around 835 he withdrew as a hermit to the "Dark Forest," today's Einsiedeln in Switzerland. There, he lived in seclusion, dedicating himself to prayer and meditation. On January 21, 861, he was murdered by two robbers who sought the few valuables in his hermitage. His death led to the founding of Einsiedeln Abbey, built on the site of his hermitage.
