BIOGRAPHY:
Saint John Baptist was a great prophet and the final precursor of Jesus Christ. He was born to Zechariah and Elizabeth, a relative of the Virgin Mary, and his mission was foretold even before his birth. St. John lived an ascetic life in the desert, preaching repentance and baptizing people in the Jordan River, including Jesus himself. He publicly condemned the sins of King Herod Antipas, which led to his imprisonment and eventual beheading at the request of Salome, the daughter of Herodias. His life and martyrdom made him one of Christianity's most venerated saints.
