BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Joseph descended from the royal lineage of David and lived as a carpenter in the Galilean town of Nazareth. As the betrothed of the Virgin Mary, he accepted in profound humility and at God's command the demanding task of becoming the foster father of Jesus Christ. He is regarded as the righteous and faithful protector of the Holy Family, whom he preserved from Herod's persecution during the flight to Egypt. His virtuous life was characterized by silent obedience to the divine will and tireless manual labor. According to tradition, he passed away in the presence of Jesus and Mary, making him a model for a life pleasing to God and a peaceful death.
