BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Leander of Seville was born around the year 540 in Cartagena, Spain. He came from a noble Roman-Hispanic family and was the elder brother of the future Saint Isidore of Seville. After the early death of his father, Leander raised his younger siblings and entered a monastery. Around 578, he became Archbishop of Seville. During his tenure, he worked tirelessly to convert the Visigoths from Arianism to Catholicism. He had a significant influence on the Visigothic prince Hermenegild, who converted to Catholicism, leading to serious conflicts with his father, King Leovigild. Due to his missionary efforts, Leander was temporarily exiled but later returned to Seville. He played a pivotal role in the Third Council of Toledo in 589, which led to the official Catholic conversion of the Visigothic Kingdom. He also wrote works on Christian education and theological treatises against Arianism. Leander died on March 13, 600, in Seville and was buried there.
