BIOGRAPHY:
Blessed Conrad of Bavaria was born around 1105 as the son of Henry the Black, Duke of Bavaria, and Wulfhilde of Saxony. As a younger son, he grew up in a noble family. After his education, he entered the Cistercian Order and became a monk in Clairvaux. Later, he undertook a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with the desire to live there as a hermit. On the way, however, he settled in Apulia, Italy, and lived as a hermit near Modugno, near Bari. There he spent his life in prayer and meditation until he passed away on March 17, 1126 (or 1154). His relics were kept in the former cathedral of Molfetta, which was renamed San Corrado in his honor. Pope Gregory XVI confirmed his local cult on April 7, 1832.
