BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Severinus of Noricum was a Christian missionary and hermit who worked in the 5th century in the Roman province of Noricum, corresponding to present-day Austria. Coming from the Eastern Roman Empire, he preached the Gospel in the region and became known for his charity towards the poor and needy as well as his prophetic abilities. Despite the threats from invading Germanic tribes, Saint Severinus dedicated himself to protecting and evacuating the threatened population. He founded monasteries and revitalized the Christian faith in the region. Shortly before his death, he predicted the imminent fall of the city of Lauriacum. He died in 482 and was initially buried in Italy before his remains were transferred to Vienna.
