BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Silvia, mother of Gregory the Great, enjoyed an elevated social position due to her marriage to Senator Gordianus. They had two sons before her husband died. As a widow, Silvia devoted herself entirely to asceticism and caring for the poor and needy. Her son Gregory revered her and honored her memory in his writings.
