BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Genovefa was born in Nanterre (France) and was consecrated a virgin at a young age. Two itinerant bishops met her in the local church, gave her a copper medallion and consecrated her. However, this glorious experience was followed by the tragedy of her parents' death. She moved to Paris and was determined to put herself at the service of the needy population. Because of her good reputation, numerous legends have grown up around her. One well-known event was her intervention during the siege of Paris by the Huns. Genovefa encouraged the inhabitants to pray, as a result of which the city was spared. The healing of her blind mother is also one of the miracles she performed.
PATRONAGE:
St. Genovefa is the patron saint of the city of Paris and of shepherds. She also protects against the dangers of war, famine and natural disasters, especially floods.
SYMBOLISM:
The symbols of San Genovefa are a lamb as a sign of her innocence and a shepherd's crook, which emphasizes her leadership qualities.
