BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Luise, born in Paris (France), was a co-founder of the "Daughters of Christian Charity" (Filles de la Charité). This is a religious community at the service of the poor and sick, which operates in convents as well as in hospitals and on the battlefield. Luise was an illegitimate child and therefore never knew her mother. Her father was a nobleman and recognized her as his daughter. Very early on, she felt the urge to join a convent, but was married off at the insistence of her confessor. However, her husband died very young and she became a widow with one child. She dealt with this pain through her closeness to God and her faith.
PATRONAGE:
St. Luise is the patron saint of social workers, nurses and care staff.
