BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Beatrice of Silva, born in Ceuta (Portugal), came from a noble family. She spent her childhood at the court of Queen Isabella of Portugal. Her extraordinary beauty attracted considerable attention, which led to tensions and prompted her decision to leave court life. Beatrix fled to the Dominican convent in Toledo, where she led a life of modesty for 37 years. In 1484, she founded the Order of the Immaculate Conception, which was dedicated to the veneration of the Virgin Mary. She died there in 1492.
