BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Astrid, born and deceased in Bergamo (Italy), came from a respected family. After the death of her husband, she converted to Christianity, converted her parents and initiated the construction of Bergamo Cathedral. She also took care of the burial of Christian martyrs and ensured their dignified burial. This led to a particularly dramatic event when St. Alexander of Bergamo died. He was beheaded during the Diocletian persecutions, whereupon Astrid and her sister buried him. However, as a result of this deed, she suffered the same fate.
