BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Gisela of Hungary became the wife of the future King of Hungary at the age of ten, making her the first queen of Hungary. She played a decisive role in the spread of Christianity in the country, as evidenced by her promotion of church building on the one hand and the establishment of Christianity as the state religion on the other. Seven years after her son, her husband died, whereupon political enemies took her prisoner. She was liberated four years later and returned to Bavaria. There she spent her last years as abbess of Niedernburg Monastery.
