BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Margaret, born in Antioch (Turkey), was raised by a pagan priest but secretly converted to Christianity. Legend has it that the Roman governor Olybrius urged her to marry, but she refused because of her faith. So he arranged for her to be tortured and devoured by a dragon. However, she blew up the dragon from the inside by making the sign of the cross. In the end, she was beheaded and martyred.
PATRONAGE:
St. Margaret is the patron saint of Sozopol (Bulgaria), of pregnant women, women giving birth, farmers, shepherds, virgins, the dying and protects against infertility and demons.
