When did Saint Anastasia live: 3rd century AD

BIOGRAPHY:
St. Anastasia is the subject of numerous legends and historical accounts. Born into a wealthy family in Rome, St. Chrysogonus took her by the hand and strengthened her in her faith. Due to differences of faith with her pagan husband, she had an unhappy marriage and so she turned to caring for Christian prisoners under Diocletian. However, due to his persecution of Christians, she was arrested and tortured until she was tied up and burned on the island of Palmarola (Tyrrhenian Sea). For Christians, this is considered a great martyrdom, which is why she was given the nickname "Pharmakolytria" (healer).

PATRONAGE:
San Anastasia is the patron saint of widows, prisoners, weavers, healers and nurses.

SYMBOLISM:
The symbols of Saint Anastasia are the martyr's palm, which is generally associated with martyrdom, a pair of scissors to represent the torture she suffered, a book as a sign of her life according to the Christian faith and a lily, which stands for her purity.
