BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Bernard of Thiron was born around 1046 in Brittany and entered a monastery at an early age. After years spent in various Benedictine monasteries, he chose an ascetic life as a hermit. Due to his great wisdom and spiritual charisma, many disciples followed him. In 1109, he founded a new monastic community in Thiron, combining the Benedictine rule with strict hermitic practice. His order, the Tironensians, quickly spread and had a significant influence on the monastic reform movement of the 12th century. Saint Bernard died in 1117 in his monastery.
