When did Saint Conrad of Constance live: 900 - 975
BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Conrad of Constance was born around the year 900 as the son of Count Henry of Altdorf and belonged to the influential Welf family. He received his education at the cathedral school in Constance and later became provost of Constance Cathedral. In 934, he was appointed bishop of Constance and held this position until his death in 975. During his episcopate, he undertook three pilgrimages to Jerusalem and several to Rome. He founded numerous churches on episcopal estates and the hospital in Kreuzlingen, to which he donated a relic of the True Cross brought from one of his pilgrimages. His close relationship with Emperor Otto I led him to accompany him to Italy in 962. Conrad was canonized in 1123 by Pope Callixtus II.
