BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Jerome Emiliani was born in 1486 in Venice. After a military career, he was taken prisoner and attributed his liberation to the Virgin Mary, deciding to dedicate his life to God. He founded the "Somascan Congregation," an organization devoted to the education of orphans and the poor. Jerome tirelessly worked for the welfare of the needy and aided the sick during a plague epidemic. Due to his dedication, he was canonized in 1767. His efforts profoundly influenced social institutions of his time.
