BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Hermann Joseph of Steinfeld was born in Cologne around 1150 as the son of impoverished nobles. At the age of twelve, he entered the Premonstratensian monastery of Steinfeld in the Eifel, where he stood out due to his deep piety and intellectual talent. His work was characterized by his duties as a sacristan and his extraordinary mystical gift, which manifested in numerous visions. He is particularly known for his intense devotion to Mary, which earned him the nickname "Joseph," as he was symbolically wedded to the Mother of God in a vision. His status as a saint is based on his exemplary life of humility, his purity, and the miracles passed down, such as the "apple miracle." For this reason, he is also referred to as the "Apple Saint." Saint Hermann Joseph passed away on April 7, 1241, in the Hoven monastery near Zülpich and was later buried in the Basilica of Steinfeld.
