BIOGRAPHY:
Saint John Paul II, born Karol Józef Wojtyla, was born on May 18, 1920, in Wadowice, Poland. After studying theology and being ordained a priest, he became Archbishop of Krakow in 1964 and was made a cardinal in 1967. On October 16, 1978, he was elected Pope, the first non-Italian in centuries. During his pontificate, he traveled extensively, promoting interfaith dialogue, peace, and human rights. He established World Youth Day, highlighting his dedication to young people. In 1981, he survived an assassination attempt and forgave the attacker. He played a crucial role in the fall of the Iron Curtain. After a long illness, he passed away on April 2, 2005, and was canonized in 2014.
