BIOGRAPHY:
St. Berthold of Garsten was a Benedictine monk and abbot of Garsten Abbey in Upper Austria. Originally a monk at Göttweig, he was called to Garsten to reform and lead the monastery. Through his deep piety, wisdom, and strict yet compassionate leadership, he transformed Garsten into a major spiritual center. He was known for his charity and support for the needy. Under his leadership, the monastery flourished both economically and spiritually. He died on July 27, 1142, and was soon venerated as a saint.
