When did Saint Ambrose live: 4th century AD

BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Ambrose was born around 340 in Trier and was one of the most important Church Fathers. In 374, he was elected Bishop of Milan against his will, as he was renowned for his wisdom and eloquence. Ambrose was a staunch defender of the Church's independence from the state and strongly opposed Arianism. He wrote numerous theological works and hymns and had a great influence on Saint Augustine, whom he baptized. He passed away on April 4, 397, in Milan and was later venerated as one of the four great Doctors of the Western Church.

PATRONAGE:
St. Ambrose is the patron saint of beekeepers, wax makers, confectioners, and the city of Milan.
