BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Winfried, better known as Saint Boniface, was born around 672 in England and became a monk at a young age. After being ordained a priest, he dedicated himself to the evangelization of the Germanic tribes in continental Europe. Pope Gregory II entrusted him with spreading Christianity in pagan regions. As Archbishop of Mainz, he organized church structures, founded monasteries, and introduced reforms. He is particularly known for felling the Donar Oak, an important symbol of Germanic paganism. On June 5, 754, he was murdered by pagan warriors during a missionary journey in Friesland.
