BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Joseph Freinademetz was born on April 15, 1852, in Oies, a small hamlet in the South Tyrolean Dolomites. After his ordination in 1875, he served as a pastor in St. Martin in Thurn. In 1878, he joined the Society of the Divine Word (Steyl Missionaries) and in 1879 departed as a missionary to China. He dedicated himself to evangelization and the training of local priests, adapting to Chinese culture, learning the language, and adopting the Chinese name "Fu Shenfu." He died on January 28, 1908, in Taikia (now Daijiazhuang) from typhus.
