BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Peter Martyr was born around 1205 in Verona and joined the Dominican Order at a young age. He became known for his unwavering faith and his dedication to combating the Cathar heresy, which opposed the Catholic Church. As a preacher, he defended the faith with zeal and was sent on a mission to Lombardy. On April 6, 1252, while traveling between Como and Milan, he was ambushed and murdered by hired assassins from the heretics-he was fatally wounded with a dagger to the head. Before dying, he is said to have written the word "Credo" (I believe) in his own blood. In 1253, just one year after his martyrdom, he was canonized by Pope Innocent IV, making him one of the fastest canonized saints in Church history.
