BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Ludan, also known as Luden or Ludain, was a Scottish pilgrim of noble birth. After the death of his father Hildebod, a Duke of Scotland, he renounced his wealth and dedicated his life to helping the poor and sick. He founded a hospital for those in need and embarked on a long pilgrimage to Jerusalem. On his way back, he settled in Alsace, where he continued to live in poverty and devote himself to charitable works. He died on February 12, 1202, in Nordhouse, France. After his death, a note was found in his purse stating that he was the son of a Scottish duke who had chosen to live as a pilgrim out of love for God. His grave in the church of Hipsheim became a site of veneration until it was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War.
