Prophet Jonah is a well-known figure from the Old Testament, featured in the Book of Jonah. God commanded him to go to Nineveh and preach repentance, but Jonah attempted to flee by sea. A great storm struck the ship, and Jonah was thrown overboard, where he was swallowed by a giant fish or sea monster. After three days and nights in the creature's belly, he was miraculously spit out onto dry land. Finally, he obeyed God's call, preached in Nineveh, and led the city to repentance. Jonah symbolizes repentance, divine mercy, and obedience.
