BIOGRAPHY:
St. Ethelbert of Kent was the first Christian king of England. He ruled the Kingdom of Kent from about 580 to 616 AD and played a key role in the Christianization of England. After marrying the Christian princess Bertha of Francia, he was baptized by St. Augustine of Canterbury. With his support, the Church established itself in England, and Canterbury became a religious center. He promoted ecclesiastical structures and is remembered as a just and wise ruler.
