BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Sylvester I was Pope from 314 to 335 AD, serving during a pivotal period for Christianity. Under his pontificate, Emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan (313), granting religious freedom to Christians. Although he did not personally attend the First Council of Nicaea (325), he confirmed its decisions, strengthening church doctrine. A legend claims that Saint Sylvester I baptized Constantine, though this is historically uncertain. His papacy saw the construction of major churches, including the Lateran Basilica. He passed away on December 31, 335, and was buried in the Priscilla Catacombs in Rome.
