St. Arnold was a Benedictine monk and later Bishop of Soissons in France. He led a pious and humble life and was known for his care for the poor and sick. According to legend, he saved many people during a famine by providing them with beer, which earned him the reputation of being the patron saint of brewers. He is often depicted holding a beer mug.
