BIOGRAPHY:
St. Edmund, King of East Anglia, ruled his kingdom with great wisdom and justice. He was a devout Christian and refused to renounce his faith, even when the Vikings, led by Ivar the Boneless, invaded his kingdom. Captured by the enemy, he endured brutal torture and was ultimately executed in 869 AD. According to legend, he was pierced with arrows and then beheaded. His body was later buried in Bury St Edmunds, which became a significant pilgrimage site. He was venerated as a martyr, and many miracles were attributed to him.
