BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Alexander was the Bishop of Rome and served as Pope from approximately 105 to 115 AD. He is considered the fifth or sixth successor of Saint Peter. According to legend, St. Alexander I introduced several liturgical practices, including the blessing of house water and the addition of water to the Eucharistic wine. He was martyred under Emperor Hadrian or Trajan. Though historical evidence is scarce, he is venerated as a holy Pope and martyr.
