BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Gerard was a Benedictine monk from Italy who played a crucial role in the Christianization of Hungary. He became the tutor of Prince Emeric, the son of King Stephen I of Hungary, and later served as the bishop of Csanád. His preaching and devotion gained him many followers but also enemies among pagan groups. During an uprising, he was captured and brutally killed. Because of his martyrdom, he was canonized shortly after his death.
