BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Nicholas, also known as Saint Nicholas, was born around 270 AD in Patara, Lycia (modern-day Turkey). Raised in a wealthy family, he became a priest at a young age. After the death of his parents, he distributed his inheritance among the poor and devoted himself entirely to serving God. Later, he was appointed Bishop of Myra and became widely known for his generosity and compassion toward the less fortunate.
Many legends describe his miracles. One of the most famous stories tells of three impoverished girls who were about to be sold into prostitution. Saint Nicholas secretly threw bags of gold through their window, providing them with a dowry for marriage. Other accounts tell of him saving sailors in distress, feeding the hungry, and rescuing innocent men from execution.
After his death on December 6, likely around 343 AD, his veneration spread rapidly. In 1087, Italian sailors transported his relics to Bari, where they are now enshrined in the Basilica of Saint Nicholas.

Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of children, sailors, merchants, bakers, prisoners, and those in need. He is also the patron of the city of Bari in Italy, where his relics rest.
