BIOGRAPHY:
St. Wilfrid of York was an important English bishop and missionary of the 7th century. Born in Northumbria, he received monastic training in Lindisfarne and Rome. Upon his return to England, he promoted Roman liturgy and ecclesiastical tradition and played a key role in the Synod of Whitby in 664, which established Roman practice in England. He was appointed Bishop of York, but due to political and ecclesiastical conflicts, he was exiled multiple times. Despite repeated expulsions, he continued his missionary work in Mercia and Sussex, significantly contributing to the conversion of the pagan peoples in these regions. At the end of his life, St. Wilfrid retired to the monastery of Ripon, where he died in 709.
