Judas Iscariot is one of the most well-known and controversial figures of the New Testament. He was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and became infamous for betraying Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. According to the Gospels, his betrayal led to Jesus' arrest and eventual crucifixion. Overcome with remorse, he attempted to return the money, and when he failed, he took his own life. His name has become synonymous with treachery and disloyalty in Christian tradition.
