BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Ephraem the Syrian was a significant theologian, poet, and Church Father of the 4th century. Born in Nisibis (modern-day Turkey), he became a deacon and devoted himself to theology, music, and poetry. He was especially known for his hymns and poems, which conveyed theological themes in poetic form. After Nisibis was conquered by the Persians, he moved to Edessa, where he continued to teach and write. He fought against the heresies of his time and is venerated as one of the great teachers of the Syriac Church. His writings had a profound influence on both Eastern and Western theology.
