BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Giles was a hermit born in Greece in the 7th century who later moved to southern France. He lived in seclusion in the wilderness, where he was miraculously nourished by a hind's milk. According to legend, one day he was struck by an arrow meant for the deer, which had been shot by a hunter. This incident explains his depiction with an arrow. Later, he founded the Abbey of Saint-Gilles-du-Gard, which became an important pilgrimage site. Saint Giles was venerated as one of the 14 Holy Helpers and was regarded as a special protector of the sick and needy.

St. Giles is the patron saint of cripples, beggars, blacksmiths, shepherds, hunters, and protector against drought and calamities.
