BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Ildefons of Toledo was a prominent bishop and theologian of the 7th century. Born around 607 in Spain, he entered the monastery of Agali near Toledo at a young age, where he received his theological education. He later became abbot of the monastery and was appointed Archbishop of Toledo in 657. A staunch defender of the Virgin Mary's perpetual virginity, he wrote several works, including the famous "De Virginitate Sanctae Mariae." According to legend, the Virgin Mary appeared to him and gifted him a priestly robe as a sign of her favor. Saint Ildefons died in 667 and was buried in the Cathedral of Toledo.
