When did Saint Kunigunde live: 10th and 11th century AD

BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Kunigunde, born in Luxembourg, became German queen and empress after marrying Henry II, who later became Holy Roman Emperor. After her wedding night, she renounced the morning gift in favor of the bishopric, which led to tensions with her brothers. After Henry's death, she unceremoniously took over the regency of the empire, which she relinquished when she retired to the Kaufungen monastery she had founded and spent her life as a simple nun despite her origins. The most significant legend tells of a trial by fire that was imminent due to accusations of adultery. She proved her innocence by walking over hot plowshares without being hurt.

PATRONAGE:
St. Kunigunde is the patron saint of Bamberg and Luxembourg; of pregnant women and sick children.

SYMBOLISM, DEPICTION:
The symbols of San Kunigunde are a book as a sign of her wisdom, a scepter emphasizing her royal dignity and a crown as a reference to her role as Empress of the Holy Roman Empire.
