BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Landelin of Ettenheimmünster, also known as Landolin, was, according to legend, an Irish prince who left his homeland to live as a hermit. He arrived in the Ortenau region of Baden-Württemberg. Initially, he lived with a man named Edulph but later withdrew into the forests near Ettenheimmünster to spread the Christian faith. Wild animals trusted him, which angered a hunter of the Alemannic noble Gisko. The hunter set his dogs on Landelin, but they did not harm him. Believing him to be a sorcerer, the hunter beheaded him. It is said that five healing springs emerged where his blood touched the ground: one at the head and one at each of the hands and feet. His body was found by passing women and buried in Münchweier. Monasteries and churches were later built at the sites of his burial and hermitage, which remain places of pilgrimage today.
