BIOGRAPHY:
St. Macarius the Egyptian, also known as Macarius the Great, was born around the year 300 in Upper Egypt. At a young age, he withdrew into the desert to lead a life of prayer and asceticism. He is considered a disciple of St. Anthony the Great and spent about 60 years as a hermit in the Scetis Desert. Macarius founded the monastery of Abu Makar, which became a center of monasticism. He was known for his wisdom, humility, and miracle-working abilities. Legends tell that he healed the sick and raised the dead. Macarius died around the year 390 in the Scetis Desert.
