BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Rita, born in Roccaporena (Italy), was married to Paolo Mancini against her will at the age of 12. He was very violent and unfaithful, but Rita managed to convert him and bring peace to the family. After 18 years of marriage, he was murdered in an act of revenge. Her sons swore revenge, but Rita prayed that they would die rather than commit sin. Both sons died of illness shortly afterwards. As a result of these losses, she joined the Augustinian monastery, where she had numerous mystical experiences. The most famous is the stigma of a thorn wound on her forehead, the wound of which festered for 15 years but never healed.
