BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Stephen was one of the first seven deacons of the early Church and is considered the first Christian martyr. He is mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles and was known for his powerful preaching and charitable acts. Due to his evangelization efforts, he clashed with Jewish authorities and was accused of blasphemy. During his trial, he delivered a passionate speech about the history of salvation in Israel, which further enraged his accusers. He was subsequently taken outside the walls of Jerusalem and stoned to death. During his martyrdom, he prayed for his executioners, following the example of Jesus on the cross.
