BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Verena, born in Thebes (Egypt), joined the Theban Legion, a military unit that served in the Roman provinces and was sent to Europe from her native Egypt. While the legion was stationed in Europe, Verena decided to put her faith into practice and lived as a hermit in what is now Switzerland.

PATRONAGE:
St. Verena is the patron saint of nurses, hairdressers, washerwomen and virgins. She also protects against eye diseases.
