BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Filomena was the daughter of a Greek king who sent her to Rome at the age of 13 to negotiate peace with the emperor. After they tried to force her to marry and give up her faith, she was killed during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian. Legend has it that she was first shot with arrows and then thrown into the sea with an anchor around her neck. She is said to have miraculously survived all these tortures, which is why she was finally beheaded.
