BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Sigrid was encouraged by her family in her religious education and piety. She renounced her inheritance and decided to lead a life of poverty. The foundation of a monastery in Tonars (Sweden) was a central turning point in her life. It became a center of piety and education. Her strict example contributed to her veneration, but also made her a feared figure.
