BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Teresa, born in Ávila (Spain), grew up in a noble and religious family, which shaped her in her faith. She devoted herself to prayer from a young age, but only experienced her deep spiritual renewal in 1538 after a serious illness. In the Carmelite convent, she experienced the first of many mystical visions, which were viewed critically and led to both misunderstandings and hostility. She is also credited with important spiritual literary works, such as "The Inner Castle", which describes perfect union with God in seven stages. Post mortem, her writings were recognized as significant contributions to Catholic mysticism.
