BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Anselm, also known as Anselm of Canterbury, was a prominent theologian, philosopher, and Archbishop of Canterbury. Born in Aosta, Italy, he joined the Benedictine monastery of Bec in Normandy at a young age, where he quickly gained recognition as an outstanding teacher and scholar. He later became abbot of the monastery and eventually Archbishop of Canterbury. He strongly defended the Church's independence from secular rulers, leading to conflicts with Kings William II and Henry I of England. His theological works, especially his ontological argument for the existence of God, made him one of the most influential thinkers of the Middle Ages. He was canonized in 1494 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1720.
